Day 1 Meet from Heathrow drive westward to Avebury. This Wiltshire village sits in the middle of the huge Avebury Stone Circle. We explore the sacred ritual complex and lunch in the thatched Red Lion village pub. We visit then the nearby West Kennet Burial chamber from where we can view the mysterious and ancient Silbury Hill. We head to the West once again and cross the mighty River Severn and into Wales. Our accommodation will be at the Great Barn Guest house at Bonvilston in the Vale of Glamorgan. (Or nearby alternative) Nearby are the two ancient burial chambers of Tinkinswood and St Lythams, if you are not too tired we can take a stroll in the evening to visit these ancient awe inspiring places. Day 2 After a splendid breakfast we again set off into the West and reach at last the County of Carmarthenshire birth place of the legendary Merlin. Here we will come upon the looming profile Carreg Cennan Castle perched high up on its limestone Crag. We can wander where knights and their ladies once held court and the brave may visit the cave that stretches darkly beneath the ruined splendour. We then follow the meandering Towy valley and can picnic beside the river in the shadow of another Princely Castle at Drislwyn. We travel on into the county of Pembrokeshire. This is Britain’s only coastal National Park and here the sky meets the sea fringed by golden beaches and towering cliffs. Here the Ancients have left their mark as circles of stone, chambers and even their dwelling places persist in glorious landscapes unchanged over the centuries. You will be staying at one of our specially chosen guest houses maybe high in the Preseli hills at Gelli Fawr, or nearer to the sea at Manor Town House in the port of Fishguard or at the Cliff top Druidstone hotel. Once in Pembrokeshire we will give you time to walk and contemplate in woodland, or cliff top, beach or hills. Days 3, 4 and 5. In Pembrokeshire, embracing the landscape and special places you will have a chance to replenish the spirit and enlighten the mind which will encourage self healing at all levels. By communing with Mother Earth through the Prehistoric, the Historic and the Natural you will walk again the path of the Ancients and be re empowered with their Wisdom. During this time Allison and Mary will be available to transport and advise you, and offer healing teaching and readings. Day 6 We will take you back to your drop off point but the journey will include wonderful places such as Cerrig Maen Ddu, stones set in a pass high in the Brecon Beacons beside the infant River Tawe. We will follow the old ways and routes and if needed we can have an extra night in Wiltshire so that we can take in the wonder of Stonehenge Your contemplative tour ends when we have delivered you to your favoured place and we bid farewell until our paths cross again. Testimonial On the Esoteric's 'Contemplative' tour, Mary shares her wealth of local archaeological knowledge; with her guidence magnificent location and vivid imagination merge to fuel the inspiration and fire the spirit. Sian Ellis wrote in the Countryman Magazine, August 2009, "What is more thrilling than walking along a coastal path and picking up bits of flint, still sharp and viable, that someone hasn’t held for 6,000 years?” asks Mary Baker; “People in the UK pay a fortune to visit the pyramids yet fail to see what is on their own doorstep. It’s my mission to raise interest in our archaeology – such an underrated resource – and to get people to explore the hidden and exciting places that reveal our shared ancestry.” To achieve her goal, Mary set up Archaeotours five years ago: offering tailor-made tours to individuals and small groups curious to visit Britain’s ancient sites. Transport is by people carrier, with picnics and hot chocolate along the way, plus Mary’s inimitable mix of effervescent wit and knowledge. Mary is fascinated by the prehistoric, its settlements and tool manufacturing sites. “If I had a choice between finding a lump of gold and a stone axe, I would choose the axe,” she says unhesitatingly. “I really admire the skilled workmanship they demonstrate; and encoded unseen within the act of making an axe was the means of embarking upon a settled life.” Wherever we go, jackdaws cackle around ruins, muthatches dart, buzzards and red kites pursue their instinct across fields. Did our ancestors also have an aesthetic appreciation of landscape? Mary is sure they did; "I think there is something particularly powerful about the west of Wales, that attracted our ancient ancestors, it was to them the land of the dying sun, and they must have marvelled at the miracle of it's dawning each day above the mountain ridges birthing a new day.” For more information regarding Archaeotours, phone Mary 07890 155538, or visit www.archaeotours.co.uk. Testimonial for 'Learning' It was wonderful to share ritual and Goddess time with like minded sisters. I came away after the three days feeling like a new woman, empowered and enlightened, THANK YOU Lisa Barry, Yorkshire |
